Propanediol is a clear, watery liquid. It’s widely used in skincare as a humectant, solvent, penetration enhancer and preservative-booster. Propanediol is non-irritating.
Propanediol, like many of our other ingredients, is a true multitasker. This means less ingredients, which makes propanediol extremely suitable for sensitive skin.
It has excellent hydrating properties and is often paired with glycerin to reduce glycerin’s stickier skin feel. Propanediol is found in our Gentle Exfoliating Essence and our Calming Serum and Purifying Serum.
It's a penetration enhancer, meaning it helps other skincare ingredients penetrate better. It is also a preservative booster. Propanediol enhances the performance of a regular preservative, enabling the use of lower amounts of preservatives.
Propanediol is approved by Ecocert and certified by the Natural Products Association.
