Skinfood: Mate hot chocolate

Mate is a traditional South-American caffeine-rich infused drink, made by soaking dried leaves of the yerba mate plant in hot water. It’s a great alternative for those who want a gentler caffeine punch. Foodin’s mate hot chocolate marries energising mate with anti-oxidant rich raw coca for a lovely warming Autumn pick-me-up. Delicious and easy to make!

Makes two servings.

Prep time: one to two minutes.

INGREDIENTS

1/2 dl coconut semolina

1 tbsp almond paste

1 dl vanilla whey protein

1/2 dl raw cocoa powder

A pinch of salt

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

5 dl warm yerba mate tea 

HOW TO:

Mix ingredients in a blender and enjoy! Be careful not to burn yourself while blending. 

For a vegan version substitute the whey protein with a plant-based vanilla-flavoured option.

N.B. The original recipe contains 0,5-1 tsp of tulsi and shilajit extract powders, which may not be suitable for everyone. Check them out should you wish to add them!
