Xylitol

Xylitol is one of our favourite skin hydrating and conditioning ingredients. Read on for more on why we love this plant-derived sugar so much!

In skincare, xylitol is used as a humectant, meaning it has the ability to bind moisture in skin. Like glycerin, it is sugar alcohol, that apart from moisturising also and conditions skin, whilst possessing anti-bacterial properties. There is some interesting research that suggests xylitol has the ability to inhibit bacterial biofilm on skin, which in turn may be the cause of many skin issues, such as seb derm and atopic skin. The xylitol we use is derived from European hardwood.

We use xylitol in both our cleansers, the mild and gentle oil-based Milk Cleanser and the more deep-cleansing, non-foaming and non-drying Gel Cleanser. You'll also find it in our purifying and oil-balancing Purifying Serum.
