Oat kernel oil is an excellent choice in skincare for especially sensitive and problem skin. It has a nearly 50/50 balance of oleic and linoleic acids, rarely causes any adverse reactions or clogging, and softens and soothes skin.
Oat kernel oil in itself has a slightly thick consistency yet leaves a light and silky. almost matte, feel on skin. Undiluted it's a dark golden colour, but is clear when applied. In skincare, it works as an emollient and skin conditioner (like most oils) but with the added benefit of calming irritated skin.
We source our oat kernel oil from Fazer, a Finnish family-owned, 127-year-old food and food service company, who make their oil in Finland, using Finnish oats. The Finnish-ness matters because the soil in Finland produces outstanding quality oats and it is quite rare for an oil producer to have a 100% local supply chain. Markku, who is head of R&D at the oat mill in Lahti, tells us he has personally eaten all oat products that Fazer makes – including the oil.
Suffice to say oat oil is one of our favourite ingredients, and so we've stuck it in our Light Face Cream, Softening Face Oil and All-Around Balm.
