Our waterless Cleansing & Balancing Face Mask for sensitive and problem skin is a purifying mask that gently exfoliates and balances your skin without drying or irritating it. The mask comes in an innovative “powder-to-gel” formula, which transforms into a light gel when mixed with water. It leaves your skin feeling soft, calm, balanced, and clean.

We chose a potato starch base for the mask – a gentler alternative to traditional clay masks – making it an excellent option for sensitive, congested, and oily skin, as well as skin prone to rosacea, perioral dermatitis (POD), and acne.

The Cleansing & Balancing Face Mask contains gently exfoliating sea salt, ReConnecting Nature® extract derived from Finnish forests to support skin resilience, and probiotic Finnish oat xylitol to hydrate and strengthen the skin’s microbiome. In addition, Finnish fireweed extract soothes, reduces inflammation, and naturally balances the skin.

Did you know? Fireweed extract is an outstanding ingredient for sensitive and problem skin thanks to its calming, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antifungal, antioxidant, and balancing properties. It’s a special source of pride for Laponie: developed by our own chemist, Jaana, as part of her doctoral research.

Sodium carboxymethyl Starch

Thickener. Modified potato starch is the gelling agent responsible for the Mask's pwder-to-gel formula.

Maris Sal

Humectant and skin conditioning. Sea salt. Lightly exfoliates and moisturises skin.

Humus Extract

Conditioning. ReConnecting Nature extract. Finnish "Forest Dust". The ReConnecting Nature extract is scientifically proven to boost immunity and is the result of 20 years of research by a team of biochemists from leading Finnish universities. It's dermatologically and tolerance tested and is suitable for all skin types. It promotes skin integrity for an enhanced skin barrier function, faster regeneration and repair, reduces skin redness and irritation and increases levels of age-defying collagen.

Epilobium Angustifolium Extract

Skin conditioning. Fireweed extract. A soothing, balancing, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inlammatory and anti-oxidative powder made from the Finnish fireweed plant. Our chemist Jaana developed the extract as part of her PhD research.

Xylitol

Humectant and skin conditioning. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol and moisturises and conditions skin, whilst possessing anti-bacterial properties. There is some interesting research that suggests xylitol has the ability to inhibit bacterial biofilm on skin, which in turn may be the cause of many skin issues. The one we use is made in Finland from Finnish oats, and has probiotic properties.

1. Mix 1/2 tsp of powder mask with 4 tsps of water in a small bowl and stir until a gel forms. If the gel is too dry, mix in a small amount of water.

2. Apply to clean skin for 10 minutes, and rinse off. Use 1-2 a week.

Tip 1: Itchy scalp or scalp-acne? Mix in the tiniest amount of the mask into your shampoo. Both the fireweed extract and xylitol are great for fighting dandruff.

Tip 2: Layer Gentle Exfoliating Essence under the Mask to add cleansing and softening power.

Tip 3: For a quick, non-irritating deep cleanse, mix a small amount of the Mask with Mild Milk Cleanser or Gentle Gel Cleanser. Massage onto dry skin, let sit for one minute, then rinse.

Suitable for use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and is safe to use around the eyes.

Finnish ingredients to love: fireweed and forest dust

The Mask contains fireweed extract developed by our co-owner and chemist Jaana. Fireweed is commonly found in Finland, and has soothing, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-oxidative and skin-balancing properties. The Mask also contains ReConnecting Nature extract, i.e. forest dust, derived from Finnish forests, which is the result of 20 years of research and boosts immunity, soothes irritation and promotess skin integrity.
