We've teamed up with epic Finnish life style maven HETKINEN, to create the Happiness Birch Mist! Hetkinen has given life to the gorgeous birch wood Mist-capsule - which can also be used to store e.g. pens or makeup brushes - while we formulated the product itself.

So what is the Happiness Birch Mist? Well, it's a light facial spray that leaves skin feeling happy. The Mist contains Finnish Albatrellus Confluens mushroom extract, which is proven to provide zen-like soothing and also anti-aging effects when applied on skin. Finnish birch sap and tree-derived xylitol sugar hydrate and tone skin, while natural ectoin and liquorice extract soothe and tackle irritation and redness.

HETKINEN is a Turku based Finnish lifestyle company that creates small design items and cosmetics from pine wood. Hetkinen was founded in 2018. The company derives inspiration from the Finnish forests and trees. The design approach is careful and minimalist. Everything is made in harmony with nature.

Ingredients (INCI)

Aqua, betula pendula sap, propanediol, albatrellus confluens extract, xylitol, dipotassium glycyrrhizate , ectoin, citric acid, sodium levulinate, potassium sorbate.

AQUA

Solvent. Water. The main vehicle for the Happiness Mist.

BETULA PENDULA SAP

Humectant. Birch sap, or birch water or juice, is an edible liquid tapped directly from birch trees, and and has been used to treat different ailments for centuries. On skin, it hydrates, tones and firms, thanks to its rich content of minerals, oligo-elements and sugar. Origin: Finland.

PROPANEDIOL

Solvent and humectant. Apart from being an excellent, non-irritating solvent, the glycol propanediol has excellent hydrating and preservative boosting properties. The one we use is made from fermentation of glucose, from corn.

ALBATRELLUS CONFLUENS EXTRACT

Skin conditioning. The Albatrellus Confluens mushroom is an edible mushroom, also known as Northern truffle. On skin, it alleviates neurogenic irritation, instantly soothes and protects irritated skin, and protects against the effects of infra-red radiation. Origin. Finland.

XYLITOL

Humectant and skin conditioning. Xylitol is a pre-biotic sugar that hydrates and conditions skin and supports the skin’s microbiome. It has potent anti-bacterial properties and provides a cooling, soothing effect on skin. Xylitol is derived from hardwood, in this case birch, as an upcycled waste stream from paper production. Origin: Finland.

DIPOTASSIUM GLYCYRRHIZATE

Humectant and skin conditioning. Liquorice root extract hydrates and condition skin. It improves the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness and possesses anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also effective against hyperpigmentation and helps in reducing the redness and irritation associated with rosacea, psoriasis, and acne. Origin: Japan.

ECTOIN

Skin conditioning. Ectoin is a small, natural stress-protection molecule, a so-called extremolyte. Extremolytes protect extremophilic micro-organisms and plants from the extreme conditions of their habitats like salt lakes, hot springs, permanent ice or deserts. On skin, ectoin provides long-term moisturisation, diminishes skin roughness and repairs the skin barrier, and is also an anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant. Origin: Germany.

CITRIC ACID

Buffering agent. Citric acid is a commonly used buffering, i.e. pH adjusting, agent in cosmetics. It is made through bacterial fermentation and shifts the pH of the product into the acidic range. This is closer to the natural pH of the skin, which may range from 4 to 7, but is usually thought to be between 5 and 6, with recent studies, however, indicating it to be below 5.

SODIUM LEVULINATE

Skin conditioning and preservative. Sodium levulinate is the sodium salt of levulinic acid, an organic acid that in this case is derived from sugarcane. Together with potassium sorbate it makes up the preservation system we use for the Mist. At the appropriate pH, the salts transform into acid, and voilà – product preserved.

POTASSIUM SORBATE

Preservative. Potassium sorbate is widely used in a variety of foods and personal care products. It works by inhibiting the growth of molds, yeasts and bacteria to preserve the freshness and quality of foods, beverages, or cosmetic products. Potassium sorbate is the potassium salt of sorbic acid, which is naturally occurring in some berries, although virtually all of the world's production of sorbic acid, as well as potassium sorbate, is manufactured synthetically. Together with sodium levulinate, it makes up the preservative system in the Mist.

How to use & tips

Close eyes and spray on face after cleansing, before serums, oils or creams. Dry skin? Apply two ore more layers of the Mist for extra hydration.

Tip 1: The Mist can be used over makeup as a quick pick-me-up throughout the day!

Why it works for sensitive & problem skin

We've used a minimum of ingredients - only ten go into the Happiness Birch Mist. (The right kind of) fewer ingredients mean less irritation.
Formulated without added fragrance and without alcohol, both of which are potential skin irritants.
Formulated with a skin-friendly preservative system. This means gentle stuff - primarily organic acids and their salts - which are kind to skin.

The Albatrellus Confluens mushroom alleviates neurogenic irritation, instantly soothes and protects irritated skin. Ectoin is a true multi-tasker for sensitive and problem skin with anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant properties. Liquorice root improves the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness, and possesses anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties.
The Mist's pH is around 5.5 (healthy skin's own pH is slightly acidic, between 4.8 and 5.5) so as not to upset your skin barrier.

Tuoksu on miedon metsäinen ja raikas ja pakkaus tyylikäs. Herkkäihoisena olen varovainen kokeilemaan uusia tuotteita, mutta tämä ei aiheuttanut pienintäkään ärsytystä tms. Laponien hoitovesi on jo vuosia ollut mun luottotuote ja kiva saada sen rinnalle toinen vaihtoehto. Toivon, että myös tätä voisi jatkossa ostaa täyttöpakkauksessa.
